Apicoectomy

Apicoectomy is a surgical procedure to remove an infected tooth root tip, to clean out the surrounding infection and to place a filling to cap and seal off the new end of the tooth.

Generally, most root canal treatments are successful. However, there are times when a root canal alone isn’t enough. When the infection from inside a tooth spreads beyond the tooth root and goes into the surrounding bone, Dr. Georgiev may recommend you apicoectomy. This infection in tooth can cause pain, and swelling over the top of the tooth in the gum and can get quite extensive. Surgery is then the best option to deal with this infection.

Dr. Georgiev will remove the infected portion of your tooth’s root to clean the infection from your tooth and the surrounding bone. After this, he will fill in the root to prevent future infections.
